HATRED DAY Book Giveaway & Blog Tour

Hatred Day by T.S. Pettibone
(Hatred Day, #1)

Publication date: January 29th, 2016
Genres: Fantasy, Science Fiction, Young Adult
Synopsis:
In the year 2052, it’s not love but hate that unites the world. Humanity is unified against the Inborns, an extraterrestrial species with godlike intelligence and abilities whose arrival on earth caused an environmental and biological crisis.

Enslaved and despised even by her own Inbornkind, 18-year-old Snofrid reawakens to the world after having her memories stolen and is certain of only one thing: she will do anything to ensure her freedom. But her resolution is soon tested when the son of a high-ranking human official is murdered and her home city becomes the center of the interspecies war, one that might see the Inborns purged. Desperate to find a way out of the city for herself and her family, Snofrid risks making a deal with the manipulative Inborn Commander, Hadrian, and his brutal cadre of soldiers. Her task is simple: take part in a historic hunt that will bring wealth and fame to all who survive. Unfortunately, Snofrid’s role is one in which survival is rarely seen—the bait.

The Authors Q&A For Readaholic Zone:
1. What is it like as twins to write a book together?

It’s wonderful to have a writing partner, especially because our minds complement one other. For example, Nicole sees the details while Brittany sees the larger picture. Also, the fact that we always have someone to bounce ideas off of, and to discuss plot and character with is very useful.

2. Are your ideas similar or is there a lot of compromising when you are writing?

Our ideas are similar most of the time because, at this point, our vision for The Hatred Day Series is synonymous. Of course, there are rare times when we disagree, but we have always managed to resolve our disagreements through arguing. A lot of arguing. If one of us can convince the other that the idea in question is objectively better for the plot, we’ll add it to the story.

3. Do you both sit down together to write or do you separately and then combine your ideas?

We sit down and outline together, but we always write separately. Generally, we will each write a character’s point of view, or, if there is only one point of view, one of us will write it and the other will make edits, additions and cuts.

4. What was the inspiration behind this story?

There is no single inspiration behind Hatred Day. The story and its characters were inspired by a culmination of ideas and interests. We have always sought to write about the deepest conflict possible, and the idea of mankind having to coexist with extraterrestrial beings provided ultimate conflict. It was Brittany who thought of the initial premise for Hatred Day, but the story grew and changed as we did over time—9 years to be exact. Before publication in January 2016, it progressed through several titles and dozens of rewrites. Only two or three original story beats exist in the published novel.

5. How in the story did humans come by the knowledge that the extraterrestrial species had God like intelligence if they had yet to die and experience heaven and God himself?

In this instance, the word “godlike” is not intended literally but figuratively. Through the Inborns’ actions—such as their military tactics and strategies, and the achievements they have accomplished through their knowledge of science and medicine—humanity knows that the Inborns’ intelligence far surpasses their own. Hence, why they refer to it as godlike.

6. What inspired the title Hatred Day?

Humanity detests the Inborn species so much that they named the day Inborns arrived on earth, Hatred Day. Although humanity and Inborns are at war, the anniversaries of Hatred Day are filled with far more violence and unrest than the average day. On that note, because Hatred Day marked the beginning of Inborns’ and humanity’s coexistence, we thought it was a fitting title for the book.

7. As twins do you like the same books and authors?

While we both have a penchant for classic literature, we do have different favorite authors. Nicole’s favorites are Henryk Sienkiewicz and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Brittany’s favorites are Fyodor Dostoevsky, William Shakespeare, and Rainer Maria Rilke.

8. What is the favorite place you both have traveled to?

We have both traveled to many different places around the world, but, up to this point, we share the same favorite place: Carmel, California.

9. I ask all authors this question. Have either one of you meet Whoopi Goldberg?

Unfortunately, no. Maybe someday!
